almost a month ago, i agreed to make lasagna for james' birthday.   since i had never made lasagna before, i searched and searched for the best recipe, finally deciding on an extremely well-rated recipe from allrecipes.com.

unfortunately, the sauce let me down  big.  i couldn't even finish my meal; i scraped off the sauce and ate only the pasta (that's big for a person who follows a lower carbohydrate diet).

i swore, right then and there, to never ever ever stray from my mom's  recipe ever. again.  here it is for you to enjoy.

Ohhh! Thanks for the honor, Erin! I generally use a lot of onion and saute it with the ground meat before adding the tomatoes (crushed, diced, or pieces) and water. If I happen to use all sausage (drained), I generally do not have to add salt. Glad you still are enjoying this recipe!
